Dania Danish Lutheran Congregation |
Located on Section 4 of Havana Township, Steele County, Minnesota. Dania Danish Lutheran Congregation was organized 1870 as part of the "Conference of the Norwegian-Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church of America" with Rev. Nils Olsen as pastor. Membership in 1873 was 40 souls, with 35 of them being Danes. Pastor Olsen served here from 1870 - 1877, when Rev. Claus L. Clausen took over. The congregation originally was called Diana Lutheran, but this was changed to Dania when objections were raised over the name Diana belonging to a Greek goddess. This was not thought to be a proper name for a Christian church. |
